The Brookfield Education Foundation funded the “Invasive Species: Education And Removal” grant aimed at educating the community about the removal, prevention [and hopefully the eradication] of invasive plant/tree species. This grant was championed by the Brookfield Conservation Commission.
Our local ecosystem, forests and open spaces are adversely affected by the rapid spread of
non-native plant and tree species. This project will empower the Brookfield community by giving it the tools needed to combat the invaders. Through a series of instructions, informational signage, and volunteer opportunities, residents of all ages will have the tools needed to recognize the invasive species and learn how to properly remove and replace them to effectively stop their spread. This grant also made provisions for the purchase of materials
needed to facilitate this effort: native plants/flowers, mulch, gardening tools, fencing etc.
