The Brookfield Education Foundation funded a grant, championed by Jackie Whiting, Technology Integration Specialist, to offer Book Creator to all Brookfield Public School students and teachers. Book Creator is a potent tool for publishing student work, including fiction and non-fiction writing, artwork, metacognitive reflection, science experiments, graphic novels, and more. Book Creator enables students to create projects with which their audience can interact, leveraging the digital tool to develop content that includes text, audio, video, animation and other embedded features that are not possible with pen and paper. Student engagement and voice are amplified by the program’s capacity for creative and effective content creation, while also nurturing collaboration skills and fostering positive habits of digital literacy and citizenship. Students will be able to combine their talents and interests to create books together, and teachers can have shared libraries so that teachers on teams or teachers who co-teach can share a library with their shared students, making collaborative and interdisciplinary instruction possible beyond the walls of the classroom.
