The Brookfield Education Foundation funded a grant request from Jennifer Pink (on behalf of 2nd grade teachers) at Candlewood Lake Elementary School to support a book study of a series by the author Andrea Beaty. The selected books emphasize important learning lessons related to courage, perseverance, problem solving and acceptance. The book study will connect in-school with at-home activities to ensure these lessons have the greatest impact, specifically through the joint reading of Rosie Revere and the Raucous Riverters. The book study unit will conclude with a trip to the Ridgefield Playhouse to see Ada Twist Scientist and Friends. Goals of the program include building a community of readers and learners in school and out, while communicating the important themes of these stories.
